How Does a Runner Running 3.5 Miles Beat a Runner Running 12 Miles?

A goal orientated life is a fulfilled life. So many people go through life and Zig Ziglar used to say… a wandering generality. If you don’t know where you’re going, you may not like where you end up.

Goals give your life direction. But how do you set a goal? First, you have to have a dream. What is your dream? Is it financial? early retirement? debt free? Vacation of the month club? a Rolex watch? a Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari?

Once you identify your dream, then you set your goal to help acheive that dream.

So what you see here is that a Dream is a material thing, or tangible, or event in your life that you desire.

A Goal is reaching a point that helps you achieve your Dream. If your Dream is a new large home, your Goal can be to reach a point whereby you are earning $50,000 per month. That goal will help you reach your dreams.

I’ve heard people say that a Goal is a dream with a date on it. Loosely translated…. maybe.  But one thing for sure is a Goal is to have a date on it.

Now, back to the title of this blog: How Does a Runner Running 3.5 Miles Beat a Runner Running 12 Miles?

When a runner enters a 3.5 mile race and then runs the 3.5 miles to complete the race… That runner is more successful than the runner that enters a half marathon of 12 miles, but stops after running 12 miles…. Just .1 miles before completing the race.

Only problem is… it that the person entered a half marathon, a 12.1 mile race but only ran 12 miles. That run is incomplete… but the person that entered the 3.5 mile race and ran 3.5 miles… they completed the task.

So the point is this… don’t fall short on your dreams. Don’t be satisfied with  almost getting there. Finish what you started. If it was good enough to start, it should be good enough to finish.

Leaders are quick to make a decision and slow to change their mind. If you made a decision to start a business, don’t quick just becuause the going gets stuff. Don’t quit at the first obstacle.

I remember reading an Og Mondino book called “The Greatest Salesman in The World” where he says that sometimes success is at the next turn. So don’t quit…. right before you were going to get victorious.

And let me finish with this. Happiness comes in life when you have a Dream. And then setting a Goal that allows you to obtain that dream. Then doing task on a daily basis towards achiveing your Goal that will help you obtain your Dreams.

Your Brain knows if you are doing something everyday towards achieving your goal and that creates happiness in your life.

But if you have a goal, and you are not taking action to reaching that goal, your sub-conscious knows this and something will eat at your insides, causing discontent because you know what you should be doing to achieve your goal, but you are not doing it.

So lets all think like the self employed… be our own boss…. and kick our own butt… and discipline ourselves to take massive action on a daily basis to achieve our goals.
