The job search has moved itself to be totally online more than you can imagine. It is critical that you get yourself registered to Job sites. In my next article, the fourth of my series, I will discuss valuable tips and tricks to keep ahead of the millions of resumes posted online. Just like web traffic, it is all about visibility. But this, my third article will be about using the online job search to become the hunted as opposed to hunting down a job.

Here is a step by step guide:
1- Get yourself registered with a valid email address on the major job sites, such as

• www.monster.com
• www.dice.com
• www.careerbuilders.com
• Indeed.com
• And set up a Linkedin profile

2- Cut and paste your resume into the resume portion of those sites (I will soon post effective resume writing within this series).

3- And, also, cut and paste relevant parts of your resume into the skill sets portion of those sites.

4- Feel free to answer question of your desired salary.

5- For travel I would put at least 25 percent even if you’re looking to not travel. At a 25% travel, jobs will probably not include travel but they may be covering their bases.

6- And ansswer the rest of the questions within the profile that needed answering.

I generally suggest to NOT put your phone number in those sites because you will get a ton of phone calls from head-hunters that have nothing to do and want to kill some time… Although, you may get legitimate offers over the phone.

What I would suggest is to get yourself a free Google phone number that you can get with your Gmail account. And register that number to the site.

You can choose to have your phone ring with each Google call you get or just set your profile to auto go to voice mail. You will be notified through email of the call.

And you can even send and receive text messages through your Google number.

You will mainly get emails of various job opportunities sent to you. These will be valid jobs available locally, from around the country and even around the world.

It is important to have a standard response set so that you can IMMEDIATELY cut&paste and reply back to these emailed opportunities.

You may want to take some time to set up your standard response and save it to draft. Then when an opportunity comes in, you can cut&paste the draft letter for immediate response from your smart phone or home computer.

A typical email response I teach may go something like this if the agent sent the title and full specs for the position being offered:

Hi (agent name),
Thank you for your interest in my resume. The opportunity you presented looks like it falls in line with my experience.
Before we proceed, I have 2 questions:
Where is the position located or is it Remote Support?
What is the approximate range of the base or hourly salary commensurate with experience?
Regards,
Your name.
=======================================================
If the agent sends an email that says something like: “hey I got a great job for you that fits your experience, please contact me as soon as possible”, I will modify the above letter with a 3rd question:
What are the exact specs of the position that the client has forwarded to you so that I may review my eligibility.
=======================================================

The above process helps narrow down the opportunities to what is a good fit for your skills.

Once you find a position that looks to be a good fit,  it is important that you follow up with a phone call and speak directly with the agent. They typically have their number in their email signature

Using these techniques my friend, I can guarantee that you will get many job listings emailed to you. And that will open up the opportunity for you to get phone interviews or face-to-face interviews.

And this is the technique that makes you the hunted.

Agents looking to fill positions that they got from the companies they represent will find you based on the buzz words listed on your uploaded resumes.

There are other great ways of finding positions such as networking with Colleagues, and searching the Career sites of the companies that’d you’d love to work for.
